A small town with a big
heart.
Population – approximately
2700 within 4.91 Square miles.
Most businesses located on
or near Main Street.
Brief history – Haynesville was
established under the name Haynesville in 1843; oil, cotton, and
timber figured in its growth; moved from Old Town site to present
location for closer proximity to the railroad; recent years have
seen many high school football championships; hometown of such
“notables” as Geoffrey Beene (fashion), Wayne Sanders (music),
Demetric Evans (football), just to name a few.
A revitalization of downtown
Haynesville is in progress.

Haynesville City Park located on Stadium
Drive includes the city pond, swimming pool, basketball court,
two baseball/softball fields, a T-Ball field, three tennis
courts, riding arena, and playground equipment.

The Haynesville Golf Course is located on
Price Drive, off Hwy 79 or Hwy Alt 2.

Woodson Park located on McDonald Street
includes swimming pool, basketball court, two tennis courts and
playground equipment. Also located on Betters Way is the Senior
Citizen Park.

Woodson Field is located off Hwy 79 South
and includes two baseball/softball fields.

Bicentennial Park is located at the corner
of Hwy 79 and Bailey Avenue.

Claiborne Parish
Fairgrounds located on Fairgrounds Drive, is where the annual
Claiborne Parish Fair takes place the last week of September.
During mid September, the annual Butterfly Festival takes place
at the Fair Complex. The grounds provides 32 RV hookups for
overnight stays or longer at very reasonable rates.

The
Claiborne Parish fairground facilities, located in Haynesville,
provide 32 RV hook-ups for overnight stays or longer. The Fair
Barn offers a large auditorium with 8,000 square feet of space,
perfect for banquets, meetings and reunions. A smaller,
adjacent meeting room is 3,000 square feet. Both rooms are fully air
conditioned.
A
covered 14,400 square feet livestock pavilion features a three- sided
balcony overhead. Also available are the historic Gordon
School House, and original 'dog trot' home, and a restored caboose.
A
public golf course on Price Dr. off Hwy 79 S. There are also
two swimming pools, baseball fields, tennis courts, library and
parks.

Bicentennial Park – Hwy 79 South.
Main Street Park – a charming area on
the corner of Main and Hwy 79, features a porch, rocking chairs and
flower garden.
Murals by a local artist on several
buildings in downtown area, when a building is empty it’s likely to
have its face painted!
The old schoolhouse and caboose –
located off West Main Street.
Historic Post Office, built in 1936,
be sure to read cornerstone.
Old houses and downtown buildings
dating to 1920’s and earlier.
Things to Do
Butterfly Festival – The annual
festival is held on a Saturday in mid-September. There is a parade
and an entire day of displays, lectures, art and contest related to
butterflies and other creatures of nature.
Claiborne Parish Fair – A typical
old-fashioned fair, it is held at the Fair Complex and grounds in
late September every year.
Golf course, tennis courts, swimming
pools, and fishpond, all readily available for public use.
